Wimbledon > Thursday, 24 June 2010 > Second round > Men’s Singles > Nicolas Mahut FRA vs John Isner USA (23) created history, a record which will remain etched in all the world’s record books unlikely to be ever broken. They played longest match in the history of tennis which lasted 3 days comprising of 11 hrs and 5 mts. The final match scoreboard roared  6–4, 3–6, 6–7(9-7), 7–6(7-3), 70–68 in favour of John Isner.

John Isner recently appeared in David Letterman’s Late Show to do a ‘Top 10 list’ on the thoughts that went through his mind while playing that historic match. It can’t get more hilarious than this, just read on.

  • 10. “I’m exhausted”
  • 9.   “We’ve been playing so long, I’ve forgotten –am I Isner or Mahut?”
  • 8.    “Remember when i said I’m exhausted? That was 8 hours ago!”
  • 7.    “Wonder if I’ll be sore tomorrow.”
  • 6.    “I’m gonna lay back until 51-50 and then make my move.”
  • 5.    “I’m asleep
  • 4.    “Why couldn’t I have played Federer it would’ve been over in 15 minutes.”
  • 3.    “Cramp!”
  • 2.    “Honestly I don’t care if I win or lose—I just don’t wanna die.”
  • 1.     “Larry King has had marriages that didn’t last this long.”
