The Wait

The Wait, 2023, 100 x 80 cm, Oil painting.

The waiting was forever,
the hollow words she believed in,
Her tiny hopeful dreams,
Purple star and lavender flowers
Trying to soothe
the sting bee buzzes across,
bringing the message,
In the midnight garden,
He will not come.

The Wait is the first of my women series, in which i intend to depict various emotions of a woman. A woman is as beautiful and delicate as a flower, i use them in abundance. You will notice it in my subsequent works in the same series. This artwork took me more than 70 hours to complete. To each, every painting has its own interpretation, but i have expressed it in colors, in words and in poetry.

Girl with a leaf

Girl with a leaf, 60 x 60 cm, Acrylic on canvas.

I hide behind the maple leaf,
in the autumn shades of yellow, brown & green,
the face is never important,
if you can read these colors,
this leaf is me.

‘Girl with a leaf’ is adapted from a photograph that i clicked of my daughter few years ago in Frankfurt when she was playing with autumn leaves lying all over on the road. This image stuck in my mind since then and i knew it had to be converted into a piece of art. It is a painting done in pop art style with acrylic medium on a 60 x 60 cm canvas.

Ink sketch: Cres, Croatia

My latest ink sketch is made from a pic i took from my recent summer visit to Cres, Croatia. The endless walks through the narrow bylanes to discover new surprises has been always my favorite during vacations. The spotting varied from a tiny trinket shop, fascinating window display of flower pots, traditional door painting to old lamps hanging or just a kid waving, I enjoyed them all. A curve promising to open up to many such surprises was captured is now inked. Enjoy!!

Two brides

Two brides (40x30cm, opaque colours on 300 gsm paper) #illusionart.

Next in the bride series 2021 was Two brides, honestly it was inspired by a movie poster and didn’t even require initial drafts, it was directly sketched on the final paper. The juxtaposition of the eyes, the bindi, the lips were all as though solving a building block, it kept falling into place on its own. The jewelry, the size of it, the color combination of the costumes and the jewelry also somehow got matched perfect to my liking. This is by far the fastest painting i ever finished (10-15 hours). This painting was loved and appreciated a lot on Instagram and many did imitate and tagged me..so i was quite flattered with that gesture.

The contrast of the skin colour is the main highlight for me, what do you think?

Four brides

Four brides, opaque colours on 300 gsm paper (40cm x 30cm)

This painting is inspired by my dear friends from the college days. They have been my strength specially during the initial lock down in 2020, we indulged for months each day with our chit chats, sometimes random sharing of trivial pics of selfies, walks, cycling, cooking or baking, in happiness and sometimes just togetherness in sorrow. I wanted to create something for us and finally struck upon this theme of diversity in culture and the richness of attire as brides since we belong to four different states of India – Kashmir, West Bengal, Punjab and Kerala, but yet the everlasting bonding much evident. I dedicate this painting to us – PACK. It took me around 40-50 hours to complete.

White, blue & bougainvillea

White, blue and bougainvillea. Water colour (42 x 29 cm)
Memories from Santorini, Greece. Water colour on 300 gsm paper (42 cm x 29 cm).
This is the view of the hotel we were staying in during our visit to Greece in 2011. Just love the white and blue combination on each architecture in the island. Attempted this very detailed water colour during first lockdown in 2020.

pencil strokes

These are my initial attempts during lockdown 1.0 to try pencil colours and honestly it’s not something i enjoyed as it left me craving for the perfection i wanted to see in my creation. But then, it wasn’t too bad either. what say?

just ink

Converted some of my clicks from my travel to Mallorca and Malta to ink sketches. Was a good warm up considering I picked up a pen after decades.
